One cool thing working for ILM is that they occasionally put out a call for 'extras' for staff that has nothing better to do. One day while Star Wars Episode 1 was filming, I decided to check it out.

The scene was for the crowd during the Pod Race sequence. They needed to turn a small group of people into a big crowd by duplicating us over and over again in the shot. So, we got to dress up over an over again in different outfits (we picked our own costumes from a huge selection of different garments), then we'd be filmed us on the bluescreened steps or seats, doing different things. Later on, the CG department was able to duplicate us and place us into different scenes.

I'm the silly looking guy on the far left. This was one of probably a dozen costumes I got to wear that day...

I haven't looked too closely, but I did find myself in one shot of the film for sure, in this screen grab from the film, I'm the guy in the upper right on the stairs with my arm around my friend Suzanne. One of these days I'll go through and see where else I am...

Later on, I also got to be an extra for the end sequence of SW1, the big parade scene. I was one of many people dressed in a red robe and waving a banner flag. heh. I haven't even tried to find myself in that shot yet...
