RoboteQ ax2550 2-Channel 120A Robot Controller
Part# RTQ-AX2550

Roboteq’s AX2550 controller is designed to convert commands received from a R/C radio, wireless modem, or microcomputer into high voltage and high current output for driving one or two DC motors. Designed for maximal ease-of-use by professional and hobbyists alike, it is delivered with all necessary cables and hardware and is ready to use in minutes.

The controller's two channels can either be operated independently or mixed to set the direction and rotation of a vehicle by coordinating the motion on each side of the vehicle. The motors may be operated in open or closed loop speed mode. Using low-cost position sensors, they may also be set to operate as heavy-duty position servos. The AX2550 can be reprogrammed in the field with the latest features by downloading new operating software from Roboteq’s web site. Numerous safety features are incorporated into the controller to ensure reliable and safe operation in the most demanding mobile robotic vehicle applications.

Key Feature Benefit
Microcomputer-based digital design Accurate, reliable, and fully programmable operation

R/C mode support

Connects directly to simple, low cost R/C radios
Integrated DC/DC converter No need for an
aditional 12V battery although one can still be used
if you want the safety of keeping the Motor and
controller power supplies separate.
Serial mode support Allows direct connection to microcomputers for autonomous operation or to wireless modems for two-way remote control

Built-in power drivers for two motors

Connects directly to DC motors. Supports all common robot drive methods
Up to 120A output per channel
Gives robot maximum lifting or pushing power
Open loop speed control
Simplest and lowest cost control method
Closed loop speed control Ensures constant motor speed even as motor load changes
Closed loop position control
Create low cost, ultrahigh torque jumbo servos
Automatic current
limitation
Drive larger motors than controllers with twice the current capacity but without current limitation. High reliability
Intergated temperature sensors for each side of the heat sink The current-limiting algorithm has been modified to lower the current based on the actual measured temperature, rather than guessing it using the current algorithm. This will make the controller's operation even safer and user will have the possibility of force cool the controller (through fans or conduction cooling), to make it run at higher currents for longer periods of time.
Integrated sensors to measure the battery's voltage Adjust your programming according to the battery voltage, or simply monitor your drop in voltage over time. Also now includes overvoltage protection for safety reasons.
Programmable Motor Acceleration Reduce stress on the batteries, the controller and the robot's mechanical structure
Up to 5 user Inputs/Outputs Read switches and sensors or activate accessories at no additional cost. Outputs activated by 3rd R/C channel or RS232
Powerful PC utility Monitor Amps consumption, battery voltage and temperature in real-time. Configure and update software using menu commands
Extruded aluminum heat sinking enclosure
Operates in the harshest shock and temperature environment. May be used without a fan in most applications
Compact design 3 lbs. 5.5" x 9" x 1.8"
Field upgradable software Never obsolete. Add new features via the Internet
