the standard for brushed drive motors

Our Team uses a lot of B16's in our combat beetleweights. The motors always perform well. The fact that there are replacement motors available (and cheap) keeps us using them. There could be a couple improvements- the shafts infrequently snap at the e-ring groove. It could be designed out or a different shaft material used. Also- the motor can will sometimes loosen up from the gearbox due to the 2 screw arrangement. It would be nice if RMP offered replacement shafts and/or "battle-hardened" versions for a few bucks more.

Beetle 16:1

These motors are of the highest quality and well worth the couple extra bucks you'll spend. My only issues with the 16:1 is that they are heavier than my previously purchased 62:1 Beetle motors and they spin a little to fast for my taste even with a 1 1/4" wheel and thats the smallest I could go and still have ground clearance. Overall still the best bettle motor on the market hands down.

A standard beetleweight drive

If you aren't sure what motor to use in a beetleweight combat robot, these are a good place to start. They offer good speed at 11.1-12v, the have decent torque, and they are quite reliable. There are faster motors, there are torquier motors, true, but these are a nice balanced start.

Guard the shafts, though. They don't do so well when hit by a spinner.

I used two of these motors to power my beetleweight Drum bot "Weta, God of Ugly Things" and took second place at Motorama 2010. They performed flawlessly.

A Great Gearmotor for Beetles

These gearmotors are the best value you can get for a three pound combat robot. Two of these are preferable to copals and similar sized motors in beetles. Two of these are ideal in a weaponed bot, and four to six would be great for a wedge.

One of the only downsides to this is that the shaft is too hard, and will snap easily if the wheel is hit. A suggested modification would be the S7 shafts for these gearboxes made by Mike Daniels. The tabs on the motors sometimes disconnect internally, though this can be overcome by taking off the endbell and soldering the wire directly to the brushes where the tabs normally connect. The first stage in the gearbox contains plastic gears, but in my experiance those have never caused a problem.

Nice speed and also powerful

I use this motor for an robot with a weight of 2,5 kg. The robot has omni-drive with 3 wheels and motors. The robot is for the robocup junior-robosoccer-2vs2 (it's a worldwide competition of robosoccer)I think for this use you can't get an better motor for this price. My robot has a speed of 1 meter in 1 second.
The only thing to criticize is that you can't buy any motor bracket for this motor.
